into the psyche, 2019
The video opens with sounds produced by the tapping of a water bottle against a hollow wall. These sounds represent the mental discomfort I felt in the hospital. As the red bird pierces through my head in rhythm with the tapping sound; my figure is replaced with a flamingo and a pig, both indicative of my emotions and to show detachment from the self. As the tapping slows,my heavy breathing takes over. This breathing technique was practiced to assess my endurance and conveys the exhaustion I underwent during my stay. The animals depart from the corridor and the viewer is guided through the depiction of my psyche. Screeching sounds along with vibrant colors are used to express my erratic emotions while mentally ill. The sounds of water and acoustic guitar, played by my youngest sister highlight peaceful elements that assisted in my recovery. The use of water signifies my rebirth as my experience in the hospital was vital in making me the conscientious and sensitive artist I am today.
